The Impact of a Natural Environment on People’s Well-being

A natural environment always has a great influence on our physical health along with our mental and emotional conditions. Getting out of our modern everyday lives and reconnecting with nature's tranquillity and lush green beauty always makes for an incredible experience for everyone.

When settling down, people frequently prefer large cities with their dense population, skyscrapers, wide roadways and smog-filled air. The primary reasons for this are the employment opportunities and the convenience people experience in a setting where everything is ‘ready-made’ for them. But when it comes to choosing a destination for relaxation or a holiday, it is observed people typically prefer nature retreats. The event of people feeling “happier” when they are close to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the cities is not a coincidence. The clean air in natural environments helps improve the level of oxygen in our brains which results in a boost of serotonin levels. Serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter, a type of hormone that alters our mood.

Being around nature and its positivity always brings out the best in people encouraging them to explore many different activities. A long stroll along the forest trail, a little bit of hiking on the hillside tracks, or some cycling on the narrow roads overshadowed by tall, beautiful trees, these activities not only make up for some good exercise but also inspire an individual's inner creative spirit. This explains why we can often see artists going on an escapade to the mountains or beaches. The existence of wildlife calms our nerves and gives us a strange feeling of kinship with our surroundings.

It can be observed that the natives of the forest or mountain areas lead very simple lives where nearly everyone is acquainted with each other. Their friendliness isn't exclusive to themselves, it embraces everyone who travels to their natural paradise from all backgrounds. This unconditional hospitality and friendliness influence us to look for the ‘good’ in people rather than always trying to figure out how someone can harm us in any way which we're used to feeling in our regular competitive lives.

The effect a natural environment has on us is evidence of our connection to Mother Earth. We shouldn't forget the emotions we experience while surrounded by nature and acknowledge how much of a big impact it has on our well-being. So, whenever we're feeling down or out of sorts, when our life starts seeming too monotonous, we should always consider escaping to nature as the most prioritized solution.
